Bimal Das Gupta created a masterpiece in depicting the Cosmic Dance of
Shiva and Parvati along with symbols best associated with the deities, with an abstract formed composition. The lunar concave in fiery orange gives away the form’s identity as that of Lord Shiva—the crescent moon is depicted stuck in the matted hair of the deity. In this beautiful example of Neo-Tantrism from the 1950s, Shiva is shown in bliss with Parvati who is mesmerised by his presence and giving into him while he takes on his overwhelming form—the Manipuri. Manipuri is known to be the celestial dance of Shiva and Parvati in Manipur, originating from the Festival of Lai Haroba. This artwork is a magical work by the genius and probably one of the first in the Neo-Tantric philosophy riding rich in Indian mythology and in an outstanding green which exudes power and energy.
